Marky’s Sweet Treats is an organization that has been raising money for Sick Kids since 2017. What started as a neighbourhood bakesale has now evolved to a one of a kind digital download bakebook.
Marky’s Sweet Treats was founded by Heidi Czutrin and Caryn Levyn in 2017 to raise awareness and funds for Sick Kids after Heidi’s son Marky was diagnosed with cancer at 3 years old. What started as a yearly neighbourhood bake sale has now shifted to a digital downloadable bakebook featuring some of the best local chefs, restaurants and influencers. Czutrin says, “ A neighbourhood bakesale seemed like an obstacle with covid but we now have an opportunity to raise even more awareness and funds with their new downloadable bakebook”.
Now a 7 year old, Marky is a 3 time cancer survivor of a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. He was fortunate to be eligible for the CAR-T procedure (only the 14th child at Sick Kids to receive this treatment in Canada) in 2019 which offered a life saving treatment option. It is due to the advancements in research for pediatric blood cancers that treatment was available for Marky and today he is a happy, healthy and thriving little boy entering grade 2.
100% of the proceeds will be donated to The Owen Weinstein Fund at Sick Kids is dedicated to raising money for research towards pediatric leukemia & lymphoma.
Owen Weinstein was a great friend of Marky’s who lost his fight at the age of 14 in 2018. He was the first kid at Sick Kids to receive CAR-T.
